Dr Amr A Abbas is a partner and the head of arbitration and co-head of competition at Matouk Bassiouny. Dr Abbas also teaches at Cairo University’s Faculty of Law, and at the Hamburg and Cairo Universities’ joint master’s programme of law and economics. His practice focuses on international commercial arbitration and international investment arbitration as well as competition and international trade disputes. Prior to joining Matouk Bassiouny, he worked with White & Case LLP and the World Bank in Washington, DC, as well as Sharkawy & Sarhan and Ibrachy & Dermarkar law firms in Cairo. He has also acted as the legal adviser for the Egyptian Competition Authority. Over the last 20 years, Dr Abbas has represented clients in more than 90 arbitration cases, including cases under the laws of several jurisdictions. This includes, but is not limited to, Abu Dhabi, Algeria, Dubai, Egypt, France, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United States before ADCCAC, CAS, CRCICA, DIAC, DIFC-LCIA, LCIA, ICC, ICSID, PCA as well as ad hoc arbitrations. Dr Abbas has also acted as an arbitrator, sole arbitrator, and presiding arbitrator in several arbitrations, as well as an expert in investment arbitration and commercial arbitration in CRCICA, ADCCAC, ICC, and PCA proceedings.
