John Choong

John Choong is a partner with the Asia dispute resolution group, based in Hong Kong.John specialises in international arbitration and cross-border disputes throughout Asia, having practised for over 10 years with international firms in Hong Kong and Singapore. During this time, he has advised clients on and represented them in a wide range of international commercial and investment arbitrations under various rules, and involving the laws of both civil and common law jurisdictions. John is a fellow of the Chartered Institute and Hong Kong and Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and holds a DipICArb. He has been listed as a leading individual for dispute resolution in Chambers Global and has also been recognised by leading directories including Benchmark Litigation (Asia-Pacific). He is also a Singapore country rapporteur for the ICC task force on the New York Convention, a founding committee member of the HK45 arbitration group and sits on the Hong Kong Arbitration Charity Ball organising committee.John’s disputes have involved Hong Kong, the PRC, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea, England, the US, Guam and Jersey, and have covered a wide range of industries including infrastructure, finance, energy, transport, technology, hospitality, property, chemicals, life sciences and manufacturing.John is admitted in Hong Kong, England and Wales, and Singapore. He has spoken, lectured and written regularly on arbitration, and has contributed to a number of books published by Oxford University Press, Kluwer and Juris. He is co-editor of The Hong Kong Arbitration Ordinance: Commentary and Annotations and of the Asia Arbitration Handbook, and is a general arbitration editor of the Hong Kong White Book 2014 (forthcoming).
